Frequently Asked Questions

Is the READI Console battery powered?

Yes. The READI Console is a fully self-contained, battery-powered, all-in-one device.

It does not require constant external power to operate. This makes it ideal for off-grid use, travel, field operations, and emergency scenarios.

Simply power it on and begin using the Knowledgebase, Mapping system, and Offline AI without needing internet access.

Does the READI Console require internet access?

No.

The entire system is designed to operate completely offline. All knowledgebase content, maps, AI processing, and hosted resources run directly on the device.

No cloud services are required for normal operation.

How do other devices connect to the READI Console?

Users can connect in one of two ways:

  • By using the optional READI Router

  • By configuring their own wireless network

Once connected to the local network, other devices can access the console through a standard web browser.

There is no internet required — the READI Console functions as a private local information server.

Do I need to install an app to access it from my phone or laptop?

No.

The READI Console serves its content through standard web protocols, which means it works with any modern browser — including Safari, Chrome, Firefox, and Edge.

There is nothing to download and no proprietary software required.

Simply join the local network and begin browsing.

What can connected devices access?

Devices connected to the local network can:

  • Browse the Kiwix Knowledgebase

  • Access shared files stored in the UserVault

This allows one READI Console to support multiple users at the same time — making it useful for families, teams, classrooms, or emergency shelters.

How are updates handled?

Most of the information on the READI Console is designed to remain relevant long-term.

When major updates or new versions of content become available, periodic update releases are provided to keep information current. These updates are optional and can be applied without requiring constant internet connectivity.

current system:

Can I add my own files?

Yes.

The READI Console includes a built-in UserVault where you can store your own documents, PDFs, manuals, maps, media, and other important files.

Your content lives directly on the device and can be accessed locally or shared with other connected devices through a standard web browser.

The system is designed to grow with you — not lock you into preloaded content.

Can I update or expand the maps?

Yes.

The READI Console comes preloaded with full North America map coverage by default. Additional regions can be added as needed.

Map data updates are released periodically and can be applied by the user. Because the maps are stored locally on the device, they do not require a live internet connection to function.

Once updated, all rendering and search continue to operate completely offline.
